Yifeng Woodcarving
Yifeng woodcarving began in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Woodcarving techniques can be found in the buildings, terraces, pavilions, beams, doors and windows, and various furniture and objects in the ancient buildings of the Ming and Qing Dynasties in the county. The county museum has a collection of 8 pieces of the central door from the Qianlong period, which are carved with flowers, grass, trees, birds and beasts, and operas. The main process of woodcarving is: 1. Creative draft, then use ink lines to outline and enlarge it on the wood; 2. The rough blank is the basis of the entire work, which summarizes the shape of the entire concept with a concise geometric shape; 3. Polishing: Use fine carving and thin knife techniques to remove the knife marks and dirt in the fine blank, so that the surface of the work is delicate and perfect; 4. Assembly: Assemble the polished main body and other frame accessories into semi-finished products. 5. Polishing: According to the needs of the work, the wood carving is rubbed with woodworking sandpaper of different coarseness; 6. Coloring and glazing: Use a hard brush, a small hard brush, and a color mixing tank. There are not many craftsmen who can do woodcarving in the folk. Hu Xiuying started learning wood carving at Tianbao Woodcarving Factory in 1984, and became a disciple of local folk artist Wu Xinyao. Later, she founded the current Zhenjiang Carving Factory.
