Taiping Lyrics is a form of folk art in which the performer holds a jade pendant and sings in Beijing dialect. In the early years of the Republic of China, artists of Taiping Lyrics created a large number of repertoires, including folk legends, moral exhortations, and word games. Wang Benlin is the only actor among several generations of inheritors who mainly sings Taiping Lyrics and supplements it with crosstalk. His son Wang Shuangfu learned from his father since he was a child and inherited this type of music. This project uses a unique art form to record the cultural history of old Beijing and has important artistic, literary and humanistic values.
