Meibei Caiqing is one of the representative folk activities in Qingyuan District, with a long history, complex rituals and rich folk customs. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Meibei Caiqing was advocated by Liang clan in Meibei. The early Meibei Caiqing was a simple structure, consisting of a wooden frame about 3 meters high, with 3 children tied to the frame, and 4 strong men carrying and controlling the balance and steering of the sedan chair for parade and performance. Later, it was modified by Liang clan members and raised to 4 meters. The production process was also correspondingly complicated. The words "loyalty, filial piety" and so on were engraved on the pillar wall. 7 or 8 children were tied to cushions on the high sedan chair, and there were more than ten people carrying the sedan chair. The chariot is controlled by a special person to turn and balance, and rotates clockwise on the horizontal props. The rotation is accompanied by various performances. The performers dress up as characters from operas such as "Journey to the West", "Romance of the West Chamber", "Dream of Red Mansions" and "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", and the performance process is vivid. It is understood that every year on the Lantern Festival (the 15th day of the first lunar month), the Lantern Festival (the 30th day of the first lunar month), the first day of the second lunar month, and the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, Meibei Village will hold Caiqing folk activities. On May 24, 2021, it was approved by the State Council of the People's Republic of China to be included in the fifth batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative items.
