In Beiwang, Bai'an and other places in Jiangxiang Town, Nanchang County, there is an ancient custom that from the fourth to the sixth day of the first lunar month every year, a Yellow River formation that is said to have been passed down from ancient times is placed on the sandy land of the river beach near the village. The lantern array is composed of 1.3-meter-long bamboo poles, with a red or green bamboo pole erected approximately every one meter, and an oil lamp with a lotus base on top of the bamboo pole. According to local legend, the Yellow River formation was created by the three sisters of Tongtian Sect, Jin Xiao, Yin Xiao and Bi Xiao. For thousands of years, the Three Xiao Goddesses have been regarded as the patron saints of peace and happiness, so the Yellow River Lantern is also called the Happiness Lantern and the Peace Lantern. The lantern array consists of 99 bends. Don't look back after walking all the way through, symbolizing smooth sailing, happiness and peace. Some people also say that the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation is named because its route goes back and forth three times and turns nine times, implying the 99 bends of the Yellow River in the world.
