The legend of Xie Fangzun is a folk literature project in the fourth batch of representative projects of Suzhou's municipal intangible cultural heritage. The legend of Xie Fangzun is spread in the southern part of Changshu City, centered on Xinzhuang Town. The prototype of the character "Xie Fangzun" is Xie Fangzun, a famous lawyer in the Qing Dynasty, from Xinzhuang, Changshu. Xie Fangzun was originally a scholar, and became a lawyer after adulthood. He was active during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. Because he often satirized and punished corrupt officials and bullies with witty words and deeds, and upheld justice for the people, he was deeply loved by the people, and his deeds were widely circulated among the people. The legend of Xie Fangzun is not only spread throughout the Changshu area, but also widely spread in the surrounding Suzhou, Wuxian and Wuxi. There are currently about 100 "Legends of Xie Fangzun", and 46 of them have been collected and sorted. The legend of Xie Fangzun involves all aspects of society, including officials and gentry, landlords and farmhands, monks and Taoists, skilled craftsmen, civilians, hooligans, prostitutes and beggars, etc. All kinds of people are reflected in the legend of Xie Fangzun, outlining the life of the people in the Qing Dynasty.
