Paper-tearing painting is a traditional sports, recreation and acrobatics project on the second batch of representative projects of Huai'an's municipal intangible cultural heritage. Historical evolution and basic content The art of paper-tearing painting is said to have been created by the Qing Dynasty painter Gao Qipei. Gao Qipei tore a four-foot square longevity character out of red paper sprinkled with gold to celebrate his friend's birthday, which became a good story. Later, Shanxi paper-cutting artists were inspired by him to tear window decorations, animals and auspicious patterns out of red paper, and the art of paper-tearing painting gradually took shape. During the Republic of China, paper-tearing painting artists mostly tore newspapers and pictorials into paintings and framed them into books. Before liberation, Yi Yushan brought the art of paper-tearing painting to Huai'an, and later passed it on to Hua Yumo. Paper-tearing painting is mainly spread in Qinghe District, Jinhu County and other places in our city. Hua Yumo's paper-tearing paintings are based on tradition and take a new approach. They use modern old calendars, pictorials or variegated paper as raw materials, cleverly take the color blocks themselves, and tear them naturally. They are like circles but not circles, like squares but not squares, and seek straightness in curves, and are colorful. They draw on the artistic conception of Chinese literati paintings and the charm of Chinese calligraphy and the style of folk paintings. It does not seek symmetry, but only emphasizes verve. The layout is exaggerated and casual, and is accompanied by hand-torn calligraphy inscriptions, which are quite inscriptions. They are framed in a picture frame and are more distinctive. Hua Yumo's paper-tearing painting techniques mainly include Yin tearing, Yang tearing, hollow tearing, blank tearing and clever splicing. His representative works include Eight Caves of Immortals, Twelve Zodiac Signs, Year after Year of Happiness, Four Seasons of Peace, Frog Fun, Fish Joy, Zhong Kui, Dance, Spring Ox, and Innocent Forever. Hua Yumo's paper-tearing paintings combine the creative techniques of Chinese calligraphy and painting with some innovations. It is a traditional folk craft with strong local characteristics.
