Gold-leaf painting is an artistic creation process that uses special traditional techniques to paste gold foil on rice paper, and then uses superb painting techniques to draw various patterns on gold-leaf paper. It is a unique craft of traditional Chinese painting, with the main methods and means of connecting gold dots, gold drawing, gold-leaf, gold-sprinkling on the picture and connecting color ink on gold-leaf paper. It has a history of more than 500 years. The Taoist murals of "Yongle Palace" in Yongle Town, Yongji County (moved to Ruicheng County in 1955) use the expression techniques of piling gold and leaching powder in painting. This kind of gold-leaf and leaching gold painting is the predecessor of the evolution of gold-leaf painting. Gold-leaf painting has been popular among the people in Yongji County, Hedong area under Zhongtiao Mountain during the Republic of China period. The local gold-leaf paper must use the best rice paper, seal the bottom with gold paper mud, polish it, and then paste gold foil after strict treatment. To apply gold foil, first apply gold foil glue on the treated paper surface, prepare the gold foil, put on gloves and masks (do not touch the gold foil with your fingers), then remove the protective paper, and carefully apply the gold foil to the treated rice paper (this requires a high level of professional skills). After the paper surface is fully pasted, use a wool brush to gently pile and sweep it to make the gold foil stick firmly. If it is gold foil, this set of processes is completed. If it is copper foil, cover glue should be used on the copper foil surface after pasting to prevent the copper foil from oxidizing and discoloring. After it is completely dry, use superb techniques to outline the gold paper. After the pattern is completed, use techniques such as texture, rubbing, piling, and dyeing to complete the creation. The production materials include rice paper, gold paper mud, gold foil glue, gold foil and various pigments. The production tools include wool brushes, gloves, masks, sponges, fine sandpaper, various brushes, etc. The main works are antique palace paintings, figures, portraits, flowers and birds, splashed color landscapes, etc. The gold-leaf paper paintings are simple, elegant and pleasing to the eye. The production process is complex and delicate, and they have important historical, scientific and aesthetic values.
