Clay sculpture is a traditional folk handicraft art in Suqian, which mainly originated in Lailong Town, Suyu District. Clay sculpture artists use local clay to make toys such as chickens, monkeys, cows, dogs, pigs, etc., and paint them after drying. Local adults are making clay figures, and a group of children in the village also follow suit to make some small animals, small houses and some farm tools. Clay sculpture mainly produces handicrafts such as ornaments and pendants. Its unique shaping technique of "rubbing, printing, throwing and pulling with hands as molds, pinching, sticking and squeezing with fingers to express ideas" is becoming more and more mature, and has formed a unique form of expression of Suqian clay sculpture. Hao Jun, a representative inheritor of clay sculpture, has summarized a complete set of clay making techniques through long-term practice, and collected more than 20 kinds of local clays of different textures and colors for creation, making the works more textured. The project has a complete teaching plan for clay sculpture teaching, and has established clay sculpture inheritance bases in the District No. 1 Experimental Primary School, Yuxin Primary School, and Zhangjiagang Experimental Primary School, so that clay sculpture skills can be inherited and developed in a new way.
