Hongniangzi is a folk literature project in the first batch of representative projects of Nantong's municipal intangible cultural heritage. Hongniangzi is a distinctive figure in the folk. There are many folk songs in Nantong with her as the protagonist, and many stories about her are circulated. She is not only known for her "cleverness" as the "incarnation of wisdom", but also a ancestor of folk songs. It is said that folk songs were created and passed down from her to later generations. The story of Hongniangzi has been circulated orally among the masses for a long time, and has been recited by readers, but has not been recorded in writing. The long narrative folk song "Hongniangzi" belongs to a branch of Wu songs. It was narrated by Chen Zhuang and Miao Eryin in 1985, collected by Jia Peifeng, and sorted by Yang Wenchun and Jia Peifeng. It was published by China Folk Literature and Art Publishing House in August 1987. The long song consists of 31 chapters and nearly 3,000 lines. The long narrative folk song "Red Lady" strives to create the artistic image of "River and Sea Song Fairy" Red Lady, who is clever and intelligent, hardworking and kind, passionate, clear about what she loves and hates, dares to pursue love, freedom and a happy life, and dares to fight against feudal forces. The whole poem has a complete and touching story, ups and downs in the plot, vivid and humorous language, and distinct characters. It is a masterpiece of folk literature.
