The ancestors of the Red Yi people in Lianhe Village, Hongge Town, Yanbian County and its surrounding areas migrated from Yunnan to Sichuan in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. The "Red Yi Foot Dance" (also known as the "Kick Dance") is a collective dance that has been passed down from generation to generation by the Red Yi people through oral transmission. People gather together to dance the "Foot Dance" for important events such as weddings, funerals, marriages, production labor, house repairs, festivals and celebrations. When dancing, everyone holds hands and forms a circle, swings their hands up and down, stamps their feet, crosses their feet, and taps their feet, imitating the movements of "digging raw land, carrying a squeeze handle, and kicking a horse". It brings together the Red Yi's foot-beating dance, harvest dance, clapping dance, welcoming dance, and "Yunnan feet", "girl feet", "seven feet", "pigeon drinking water", "fly rubbing feet" and other steps, accompanied by bamboo flutes, and at the same time integrates folk songs into the dance, with a strong local color. The Red Yi Foot Dance consists of thirteen dance music. The tune is bright, with a mixture of 4/2 and 4/3 beats. The tune is either high-pitched and intense, or gentle and winding. The rhythm is sometimes urgent and sometimes slow. The dancers follow the changes in the tune closely, constantly changing their movements and steps. It has a distinct artistic personality of the ethnic group and a strong local characteristic. In July 2014, the "Red Yi Footstep Dance" was announced by the Panzhihua Municipal Government as the third batch of Panzhihua City's intangible cultural heritage list.
