The Yi people's left-foot dance has a history of more than 1,000 years, and the March Festival has a history of nearly 400 years. As early as the 41st year of Emperor Kangxi (1702), there was the earliest written record of the left-foot dance. Legend has it that a long time ago, there was an evil dragon in the world, causing storms and floods. Two Yi youths, Ali and A Luo, bravely stood up and went to subdue the evil dragon. Led by Ali and A Luo, the Yi people fought against the evil dragon together. Seeing that the situation was not good, the evil dragon quickly fled back to the dragon pool. People seized the opportunity to pour the chestnut charcoal that had been burned in advance into the pool. After it was filled, they lifted stones and dug soil to fill the dragon pool. They were afraid that the evil dragon would turn over if the tamping was not tight enough, so they lit a bonfire on it, singing, dancing and stamping their feet. After three days and three nights, the evil dragon finally died. In order to celebrate the victory, the Yi people made a moon guitar with the head, skin, bones and tendons of the evil dragon, gathered together to dance and play the piano, and sang the left-foot tune "Ali Luo" to commemorate it. In Zhela and Longgeli, where the Yi people live in Lvzhi Town, for hundreds of years, on the 16th day of the first lunar month and the 27th, 28th, and 29th day of the third lunar month, people get married and their daughters get married. When the sun sets, people from far and near and other ethnic groups come uninvited, play the dragon head string, and men and women sing the left foot tune in harmony or in unison. Hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder, they form a large circle of dozens or even hundreds of people and dance the left foot dance happily. Accompanied by the sound of the strings and the high and clear tunes, they sometimes slip and slip, sometimes turn their feet, sometimes swing their legs and feet, and sometimes wave their hands and turn around. The dance steps are neat and uniform, and the dance postures are light and healthy. There are many types of left foot dance tunes, but they are basically bold. The first category is hospitality tunes, such as: "You have to come whether you like it or not, you have to come whether you like it or not"; the second category is singing about a good life, such as "March meeting, March meeting, it's fun, playing the string instrument and dancing, selling jars and baskets, Aliro Aliro Aliro"; the third category is singing about a bumper harvest, such as "The moon is out, the string instrument is tuned. The moon is round and round, the moon is smiling, let's all dance together, singing about a bumper harvest"; the fourth category is singing about love, such as "March meeting is the best way to express love, dancing for three days is not tiring. If you don't come, you can't say you're coming, don't let my sister wait in vain". On March 27, 28, and 29, the masses in all Yi-inhabited areas of Lvzhi Town will organize large-scale left-foot dances. By then, Yi men and women wearing bright Yi costumes will be everywhere, and the sound of the moon guitar and the tunes will resound everywhere. Regardless of nationality, whether they know each other or not, everyone will hold hands, dance, and revel all night long.
