Nantong dough figurines (Haian dough figurines, Cai's dough figurines) are traditional fine arts extensions of the fifth batch of representative projects of Nantong's municipal intangible cultural heritage. Cai's dough figurines are handmade with flour and long glutinous rice flour unique to Rugao as raw materials, and are made through dozens of processes such as steaming, cooling, kneading, pinching, pulling, and picking. Cai's dough figurines are mostly drawn from history and are full of the charm of ancient paintings; they focus on people's understanding of the skeletal and muscle structure of the body, and shape the human body structure accurately; the figures they make are exquisite, and they are good at seeing the big from the small; the figures they make are highly recognizable, and they are good at facial portrayal. The unique material formula of Cai's dough figurines allows the sculptures to be preserved for a long time.
