Hengxian Zhuang Tea Picking Opera is a type of tea picking opera of the Zhuang ethnic group in southern Guangxi. It is widely spread in Liujing, Luancheng, Nanxiang, Baihe in Hengxian County, Guangxi, as well as in the neighboring Binyang, Yongning, Lingshan, Qinzhou and other vast areas. It was introduced from southern Jiangxi through northern Guangdong in the Qing Dynasty, and has a history of more than 300 years. Hengxian Zhuang Tea Picking Opera is also known as "Tea Song", "Tea Picking Song" and "Singing Tea Picking". It is a unique traditional drama that has developed from singing bamboo horses to singing and dancing. Hengxian Zhuang Tea Picking Opera has more than 10 performance forms such as Kaitai Tea (Gong Tea), Nai Tea, Shisong Tea, Laozheng Tea, Yanghong Tea, etc. The content of the performance is mainly "December Tea Picking". Its roles are divided into Xiaosheng, Xiaodan and Clown. The instrumental music is accompanied by percussion instruments such as gongs, drums, cymbals, wooden fish and suona, flute, erhu and other instruments. The props include ribbons, money whips, flower fans and handkerchiefs. The performance program is mainly singing and dancing, and the lines are mostly rhymed lines. There are two types of tea picking tunes: tea tunes, which are the original tea picking tunes; and tea clips, which are based on "Nanchang Xiaoqu" and "Four Seasons Lotus" and absorb folk songs from various places. The singing language is mainly Hakka and Zhuang dialect, which is lively, warm and has strong local characteristics. "Tea Picking Ancient" is a further development based on tea clips. It uses some folk stories with plots as the bridge of the play and sings through tea picking tunes. Most of them are comedies and farces. From the mid-1950s to the early 1960s, Hengxian Zhuang Tea Picking Opera had basically completed the transition from local small drama to stage drama. At that time, every village had a tea picking performance team. The county also conducted Zhuang Tea Picking Opera rehearsals. However, during the Cultural Revolution, Zhuang Tea Picking Opera was regarded as "old culture" among the "Four Olds" and was imprisoned. The tea picking team was severely damaged and Zhuang Tea Picking Opera was stopped. After the reform and opening up, although Zhuang Tea Picking Opera ushered in the spring of flourishing literature and art, due to the lapse of several decades, the young male and female actors of that year have become white-haired old men. The Zhuang Tea Picking Opera lost these backbones and the prosperity of "every village has a tea picking team" in history has been restored. Today, the social value of Hengxian Zhuang Tea Picking Opera has been gradually recognized by people and experts. It is a unique and distinctive local opera, adding a new page to the history of Chinese drama.
