🎧  Listen to Introduction

Lingshan Tea Picking Opera has been continuously reformed and innovated by artists of all generations, and has developed into various forms such as dance, one-act play, and multi-act play. It is usually performed by one man and two women. The man is called the tea master, and the woman is called the tea girl or tea dan. The tea master has a "cow convex hair" on his head, wears a Tang suit, holds a colorful fan in his hand, and has a silk belt around his waist. The tea girl wears a flower helmet, wears a specially made Tang-style dance costume, holds a colorful fan and a handkerchief in her hand. Before the tea picking begins, an opening ceremony is held. The opening ceremony consists of "opening tea" and "opening tea". After that, it will be carried out in the order of: first month tea, holding tea with brother, sending brother to sell tea, plate tea, congratulatory tea, and killing tea. Killing tea is the curtain call ceremony of the old tea picking opera. Lingshan Tea Picking Opera has a total of 72 sounds (melodies), which can be divided into four categories in terms of style: the first type of tunes often use "hehehe" as the background words, and the style clearly shows the local charm. The second type of tunes often use "meizi" and "erji" as the supporting words, which retains the traces of Hakka dialect. The third type of tunes often use "nahaiyo" and "yizheya" as the supporting words, and the singing and dialogue still retain the Hunan dialect. Although the fourth type of tunes do not use supporting words, the rhythm clearly reveals the charm of Guangdong folk songs.
