"Dancing Eagle" has been popular in Leizhou Peninsula for hundreds of years. The "Dancing Eagle" in Zhuyuan Village is famous for its high difficulty. There is a legend about the origin of "Dancing Eagle". In the past, there was a big mountain in the northeast of Leizhou Peninsula. There were many birds and beasts on the mountain. Among them, eagles and eagles often played and foraged together, which was very interesting. It is also said that eagles and eagles can exorcise evil spirits and bring good luck to people. Therefore, every Spring Festival or festive holiday, every household in the village is eager to have eagles and eagles. So people simulated the scenes of them playing and fighting, and created the dance form of "Dancing Eagle". Over time, it has become a traditional folk activity in the local area. "Dancing Eagle" is a big prop dance. The eagle's shape features a sharp beak, wide wings, and sharp claws, which are clever and brave. The eagle is made into a dragon head with a phoenix tail, a leopard body, and a unicorn horn, which looks strong and majestic. The routines of the performance are roughly "Awakening the Eagle", "Four Doors of Fighting", "Washing the Face and Rinsing the Mouth", "Crossing the Bridge", "Picking the Ground Green" and "Picking the Sky Green", etc. Among them, "Picking the Sky Green" is thrilling and the most difficult, and it is the climax of the whole dance. According to Chen Zhaoming, a 90-year-old man from Zhuyuan Village (the oldest in the dance team), there were "Dancing the Eagle" activities in this area around the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty, but it was always limited to ground dance. In the 1940s, the late Liang Rongzhang made a 4-meter-high wooden pole based on the original one, and lifted the eagle performer into the air. Without any safety measures, he held the wooden pole with his belly, and performed high-altitude balance rotation and difficult movements of picking green, which greatly improved the performance level of the Eagle Dance.
