Xiqin Opera, also known as Luantan Opera, is popular in Haifeng, Lufeng, Chaoshan, southern Fujian, and Taiwan. In the Ming Dynasty, Xiqin Opera from the northwest region flowed into Haifeng and Lufeng, and combined with local folk art to form Xiqin Opera in the early Qing Dynasty. The musical singing style of Xiqin Opera is a variation of the parallel sentences, and the tunes are divided into four categories: Zhengxian, Xipi, Erhuang, and Xiaodiao. Zhengxian is the main vocal style of Xiqin Opera, which is divided into Erfang, Pingban, and Bangzi. Xiqin Opera singing and speaking follow the Zhongzhou phonology, and men and women sing in different voices and tunes. Men sing in real voices, and women sing in false voices. The band is divided into "Wenpan" and "Wupan". "Wenpan" uses instruments such as head string, two strings, three strings, Yueqin, suona, and haotou, while "Wupan" mainly uses percussion instruments such as gongs and drums. The performance style of Xiqin Opera is rough and bold, vigorous and passionate, and it is good at martial arts. Its martial arts skills are based on southern martial arts. The roles of Xiqin Opera are divided into "face-playing", "head-playing", "net-braiding" and "flag-army-playing". "Face-playing" includes red-faced, black-faced and ugly roles; "head-playing" includes Zhengdan, Huadan, Lanshan and Pojiao; "net-braiding" includes Laosheng, Wensheng, Wusheng and Gongmo; "flag-army-playing" includes Wujun and Hongjun. There are more than 1,000 traditional Xiqin Opera repertoires, among which the more influential ones include "Four major bow and horse plays" such as "Gong Keji", "Sanguantang", "Baozhuchuan" and "Fanmaji", "36 main plays" such as "Da Lifeng" and "Qipanhui", "72 outline plays" such as "Zhan Zhengen", etc., and "Return to the Kiln", "Ge Nen Niang", "Qin Xianglian", "Zhao's Orphan" and "Visiting West Lake" are also very popular with the audience. Xiqin Opera retains the artistic factors of the ancient Xiqin Opera, which is a living evidence of the spread and evolution of the local opera vocal style in the Qing Dynasty and has a high research value. At present, there is only one registered Xiqin Opera troupe in Haifeng County, with more than 50 artists. The traditional repertoire and traditional leading instruments, percussion instruments, tunes, props, etc. are on the verge of extinction. The lack of performing talents is extremely serious, and rescue and protection work is imminent.
