The gongs, drums and flags teams of Jiedong County are all over the county, and the most famous one is the gongs, drums and flags team of Paotai Town. It is a traditional comprehensive literary and artistic activity for folk spring outings and major celebrations for hundreds of years. The gongs, drums and flags team (commonly known as "traveling gongs and drums" and "traveling flags") is composed of the Chaozhou gongs and drums team and the flags team. The gongs and drums team includes gongs and drums. The gongs and drums have 1 to 9 big drums, accompanied by Su gongs, deep waves, medium gongs, big cymbals, small cymbals, moon gongs, chins, bowl gongs, etc.; the string music has 4 to 16 suonas, accompanied by yehu, erhu, yangqin, pipa, sanxian, guzheng, ruan, dahu, cello, yueqin, big transverse flute, etc. The Chaozhou gongs and drums team is directed by the big drum and led by the suona. The flag-bearing team includes the big and small year flag-bearing team, the big and small five-pointed flag-bearing team, the umbrella team, the waist drum team, the ladies' performance team, the children's fire dragon and torch team, the eight-treasure team, the flower basket team, and the "painted scenery" team. The entire gong and drum flag-bearing team has at least three or four hundred people, and at most nearly a thousand people. Since the Qing Dynasty, the gong and drum flag-bearing team has gone through the interpretation from small to large, from simple to complex, and from old customs to new fashions. In the old days, the instruments for parades or festive activities were simple. Since the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, with the rise of Chaozhou opera classes, puppet classes, string rooms, and music halls, the gong and drum flag-bearing team has reformed the tunes, instruments, and performance forms, and the music has changed from few to many, and from monotonous to rich. The flag-bearing team has also changed from single to diversified and multi-form, and performance activities have been added. The costumes vary from time to time, becoming a window of the culture of the times. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the gong, drum and flag team is usually organized by farmers spontaneously during the Spring Festival, the first and second months of the lunar calendar to visit Mazu, Guandi, and celebrate the harvest in rural areas, while major national festivals or major celebrations are mostly organized by local administration. The Paotai Town Gong, Drum and Flag Team was invited to participate in the 3rd Spring Festival Friendship Party of Shantou City in 1989, the large-scale art and cultural event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the National Day of Jieyang City in 1999, the large-scale art and cultural event celebrating the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Jieyang City in 2002, and the art and cultural event celebrating the 5th anniversary of the return of Macau in 2004. They have all won praise from all walks of life and are well-known at home and abroad. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
