Shijingshan Taiping Drum
Taiping drum, also known as "fan drum", "single drum" and "sheepskin drum". It uses fan drum and drum whip as props. The fan drum is a single-sided sheepskin drum with a diameter of 25-30 cm and painted with auspicious flowers and birds. The drum handle is 35 cm long, and the lower end of the drum handle is welded into a three-petal plum blossom shape with fine steel bars. There are several small copper rings on it, and the small copper rings collide with each other and make a loud noise. The drum whip is about 45-50 cm long, made of rattan or bamboo sticks, and tied with a strand of colored silk thread or cloth strips. The fan drummers hold the fan drum handle in their left hand and the drum whip in their right hand, shaking or hitting the fan drum while dancing, and singing the fan drum tune. Fan drum dance got its name from this. Taiping drum has a long history. The folk custom of playing Taiping drum (originally called La drum) in the New Year has existed since ancient times. Its original intention was to drive away the plague and pray for peace. In the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), its name was fixed as Taiping drum. In the Ming Dynasty, Liu Dong and Yu Yizheng recorded in "A Brief Account of the Scenery of the Imperial Capital": "A boy beats a drum from dusk to dawn, which is called the Taiping Drum." The Taiping Drum, which flourished in and outside the capital during the Qing Dynasty, became increasingly mature. It has become the most popular folk song and dance among the northern folk festivals and has been widely circulated. The performance style of the Taiping Drum in Shijingshan District is elegant, vigorous, open, and free and easy. There are many types of drum beats: "Fighting Cocks", "Round Drums", "Shaking Heads and Kneeling", "Tie Fences", "Routine", "Pulling Drawers", "Connecting Drums", "Big Fan Drums", "Small Fan Drums", etc., which are unique in Beijing.
