Cao's Kite
Cao's kite is named for the kite-making skills and humanistic traditions of Cao Xueqin. It is one of the four major schools of Chinese folk kite art and an excellent representative of the kite art traditions and customs of the Chinese nation. In 1943, Mr. Kong Xiangze and several famous kite masters in Beijing came across the "Fei Yi Zhai Ji Gao" written by Mr. Cao Xueqin, the author of "Dream of Red Mansions" in the late Qing Dynasty. Mr. Kong respected Mr. Xueqin's original intention of writing books to pass on art. He traced the origin and used the "Fei Yi Zhai Ji Gao o Volume 2 o Nan Yao Bei Yuan Kao Gong Zhi" as a blueprint. He devoted himself to the arrangement, research, reproduction and promotion of Cao's kites, and named it "Cao's" for its skills. He has been consistent for more than 60 years and will eventually pass it on to future generations. In August 2006, Cao's kite was selected as the first batch of Beijing-level intangible cultural heritage protection projects. In May 2011, Cao's kite was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage. Later, Kong Xiangze's son Kong Lingmin accepted Miao Bogang as his apprentice. As one of the fourth-generation inheritors of "Cao's Kite", with Miao Bogang's efforts, he gathered people from all walks of life and established the Cao Xueqin Kite Studio in Yuhuayuan Yili Community, Gaomidian Street, Daxing through the Kite Tea Club. In 2019, Cao's Kite was selected as an intangible cultural heritage protection project at the Daxing District level. "Cao Xueqin Kite" is a folk kite art that integrates folk culture and the essence of northern and southern weaving techniques to form a unique style. Its production process is weaving, pasting, painting and releasing, collectively known as the "four arts", with unique craftsmanship. It preserves 21 weaving mnemonics and 14 production techniques preserved among 43 techniques. It is delicate in workmanship, sophisticated in materials, exquisite in painting, and interesting in flying. The most representative ones are the three categories of beaters, hard wings and soft wings. Among them, the anthropomorphic weaving swallow highlights the characteristics of Beijing. Representative kites of Cao Xueqin have been presented to international leaders such as Kofi Annan, the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations, Sarkozy, the President of France, Wulff, the President of Germany, Bob Hawke, the Prime Minister of Australia, and Lee Soo-sung, the Prime Minister of South Korea, on different occasions. At the same time, they have promoted the dissemination and development of the fine traditional culture of the Chinese nation, built a bridge for cultural exchanges between multiple nations, and opened up a cultural space with an international perspective. Daxing has a long tradition of flying kites. Nowadays, kite-flying enthusiasts are often seen in Xinghai Park. There are also activities to help the elderly and the disabled with kites, to improve the coordination of the hands and brains of the elderly and the disabled, to keep fit and stay healthy, and to feel the charm of traditional art. This is exactly the original intention of Cao Xueqin's kites. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
