Rizhao modern folk painting is a painting art that farmers use to express their lives, feelings and aesthetic tastes. Over the years, through the unremitting efforts of farmers and instructors, a unique artistic style and artistic language have been formed. Rizhao modern folk painting has a history of nearly 50 years. After the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee, Rizhao peasant paintings entered a new period of development. In 1980, the special edition of "Farmers' Masses" published Rizhao peasant paintings. Since then, "Art" magazine, "Dazhong Daily" and "Farmers' Daily" have also written articles to highly evaluate them. The peasant creation team has more than 500 people. In 1985, the first peasant painting association in Shandong Province was established. The following year, at the invitation of Shandong Arts and Crafts Association and Shandong Arts and Crafts Academy, 65 peasant paintings were exhibited in Jinan, which were praised by the audience in the provincial capital and the authority of the art world. Hua Junwu, vice chairman of the China Artists Association, wrote "Yimeng Mountain Flowers". Xing Yan, president of "People's Pictorial", titled it "Painting the Beautiful World", and the famous painter A Lao praised Rizhao peasant paintings as "a wonderful flower in the garden of flowers". In May 1987, Rizhao peasant paintings were exhibited at the National Art Museum of China. National leaders and celebrities in the art world gave high praise after visiting. On February 9, 1988, the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China officially named Rizhao City as "China's Modern Folk Painting Town". In September 1988, in the first peasant painting and calligraphy competition in China, Rizhao peasant painting "Cockfighting" by Huang Kuijun won the second prize, "Dapeng Song" by Fu Chengfeng won the third prize, "Rizhao Shijiugang" by Ding Xinhua, "Pigeon Raising" by Fu Chengyu, "Kiln Goods Stall" by Ma Yuqin, and "Spring Oxen" by Song Quanguo won the preliminary prize. The number of winners accounted for half of the province.
