Tongan modern folk painting (peasant painting), which is famous both at home and abroad, has a history of half a century. Tongan modern folk painting has many authors who use rural scenery, rural customs, and farm life as the main themes, and create breathtaking paintings with farmers' personal feelings, rich imagination and skillful techniques. Since the 1950s, Tongan modern folk painting has not only won awards frequently in the country, but has also been selected by the Ministry of Culture to participate in exhibitions in Sweden, Britain, Denmark, Norway, Argentina, Uruguay, Tunisia, the Philippines and other countries. These paintings with national, life-like, natural and decorative effects have been favored by collectors and art dealers. Tongan modern folk painting has cultivated high-level peasant painters such as Liang Jincheng, Wang Qiren, Ke Chaoding, Yan Mingsuan, Yan Rongchuan, Ke Guoqing, and Chen Jianchun. In March 1983, Tongan was named "Hometown of Modern Folk Painting" by the Ministry of Culture.
