Rushan Xiaoyangge

🎧  Listen to Introduction

The term "Xiao Yangge" was created by folklore organizers in Rushan to correspond to the term "Da Yangge". Some folk entertainment items that were called "Jiaoju" in the past are classified as Xiao Yangge, and some are classified as acrobatics. Regarding the origin of Yangge, there is a saying among the people that "Yangge in the Zhou Dynasty and opera in the Tang Dynasty", but from ancient mythology and other classics, the origin of Yangge is obviously earlier than the Zhou Dynasty; in terms of the origin, it is indisputable that it originated from labor. The ancients were quite serious about the words they used. Yangge was related to farming such as transplanting rice, and later it was integrated with many elements of flood control and war. Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, stilts, ground jumping, dragon dance, lion dance, land boat, float, driving, forking, flower stick, dragon lantern, lotus lantern, black donkey running, little cowherd, umbrella drum, tiger and bull fight, single pole bridge, pounding, flower whip drum, shaking gourd, fisherman and woodcutter, Tang monk and his disciples seeking scriptures, Zhu Bajie carrying his wife, big-headed monk playing with willows and green trees and other yangko art forms have appeared in Rushan area, "one village, one product" small stage, single independent performance. There are so many yangko schools that it is difficult to define them with a unified standard. You are in me, I am in you. Generations of yangko artists have been inclusive, gradually enriched, and perfected the regional style. For example, the big Yangko dance is a collective dance (walking in formation). The whole formation includes two dragons spitting beards, dragons wagging their tails, scissors, cabbage hearts, jade pillars, eight trigrams, bamboo baskets blooming, intrigues, nine flags, jumping over the dragon gate, four links, etc. The actors' dance postures include stepping, fluttering, shaking, jumping, walking, running, stumbling, sucking legs, somersaults, stacking monks, kites kicking legs, fishing for the moon under the water, etc. The gestures include shaking, poking, tapping, shaking, willows, single-arm flowers, alternating flowers, butterfly flowers, etc., which are also used in small Yangko. Common small Yangko: The original framework of the story of the leak-fixing craftsman and Aunt Wang is that the Jade Emperor has a daughter named Hanba, who secretly came down to the mortal world and possessed Aunt Wang. The leak-fixing craftsman is the incarnation of the land master of Nantianmen. He was assigned by the Jade Emperor to the mortal world to catch Hanba. Yangko shows the plot of the two people's witty dealings and teasing and fighting after they met. The ugly woman and the silly boy are just acting funny for the sake of humor. The performers have to act crazy and silly, coy and angry, and please the audience according to the atmosphere of the scene, with the main purpose of making people laugh. The peddler and Cuihua are flirting with each other. The peddler in the countryside comes to the village to deliver goods, and Cuihua, a girl in the village, comes to choose goods. The two of them not only negotiate the goods and prices, but also love and care for each other, showing full human touch and fun in life. The dragon head prop of the fire dragon is very large and can spray flames; the dragon body has nine sections, each section is 0.8 to 0.9 meters long, and there are candles in the section box (the candle holder is hanging, which can keep the candle head facing up under the action of gravity when dancing, and now it uses direct current); there are 1.5 to 2 meters of ropes between the sections; the dragon tail is slender and very rhythmic; the whole dragon is 28 to 30 meters long. All parts are held up by poles for dancing. There is a person holding a dragon ball in front, who is the leader of the dance. It takes at least 16 people to coordinate with each other to make a dragon dance. When the dragon breathes fire, it is done by the person holding the dragon ball and the dragon head dancer. The dance of a single fire dragon is shocking enough. If there are two dragons playing with a dragon ball, five dragons worshiping the moon, or nine dragons facing the sun, you can imagine how spectacular and lively it is. Traditional small yangge also includes running on land boats, playing with dragon lanterns, riding black donkeys, walking on stilts, dancing lions, Tang Monk and his disciples seeking scriptures, Zhu Bajie carrying his wife on his back, etc. The meanings are self-explanatory, so I won't introduce them in detail. Small yangge can be performed independently, and it also serves as the free dance part after the big yangge.
