Zhuizi Opera, also known as "quyi opera", is a rare opera in Anhui. It originated in Xiaoxian County, Suzhou in the early 1940s and became popular in the border areas of Anhui, Henan, Jiangsu and Shandong. It is based on the folk storytelling single-mouth Zhuizi, and has developed through "big yangqin", "Daoqingban" and "quyi opera". Zhuizi Opera is named after its main instrument, "Zhuizi". The performance of Zhuizi Opera is realistic, and many performance routines are extracted from the daily life of local farmers, with a strong local color. Zhuizi Opera has rich and colorful singing styles: the male voice "big mouth" is sonorous and powerful; the female voice "small mouth" is graceful; the coloratura is humorous and witty; the supporting words and tunes are beautiful and gorgeous; the sad "Dahanyun" is tear-jerking. Most of the repertoires of Zhuizi Opera are adapted from the "Duanzihua" (small storytelling) and "Manzihua" (large books) in the single-mouth Zhuizi. Among them, there are more than 100 traditional operas, more than 40 small operas and excerpts, and more than 50 large and small modern operas. The plots of the large operas are gripping, and the small operas are full of life, which are deeply favored by audiences in the Huanghuai area.
