Sichuan
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Jinqianban is a traditional folk art of the Han nationality in Sichuan. The performer holds two bamboo boards in his left hand and one in his right hand to beat the rhythm and accompany the storytelling. It is named because two of the bamboo boards are embedded with ancient copper coins. Main name: Jinqianban, alias: Daliansan, Sancaiban, Jinqianban, Jinjianban. Its singing style is the processing and reform of some tunes of Sichuan opera Gaoqiang by senior artists. Jinqianban is sung by one person, and the lyrics are seven-character sentences or ten-character sentences, which can be appropriately expanded and contracted according to the content, two sentences in a couplet. The percussion instrument is three nine-inch long nan bamboo pieces (about one inch wide and about 0.5 cm thick). The singer holds the lower end of the two bamboo pieces in one hand, opens and closes the upper end to beat the beat, and holds a bamboo piece in one hand to beat the other two bamboo pieces to beat the rhythm. Because the upper end of the three bamboo pieces is embedded with copper coins, it is called Jinqianban. It can produce nine different rhythms and sounds of wind, cloud, thunder and rain. The Jinqianban has promoted the Party's policies and guidelines in an artistic form, enriched the cultural life of the masses, and made certain achievements in improving the quality of life. In July 2019, the Jinqianban was announced by the Yanbian County People's Government as the third batch of Yanbian County's intangible cultural heritage list.
