Money Board (Zitong County Cultural Center)

Sichuan
🎧  Listen to Introduction

During the performance, the left hand holds two bamboo boards and the right hand holds one bamboo board. The two bamboo boards in the left hand are rhythmically struck to make sounds, while the bamboo boards in the right hand are struck on the bamboo boards in the left hand, producing fast and slow, quick and slow, strong and weak rhythms. The performers sing while striking, supplemented by expressions, postures and movements. The lyrics of the money board are mostly 7-character sentences, and the last sentence of each measure has a dragging tone. The singing style of the money board is derived from the folk tunes of the Sichuan opera "Red Patched Coat" and "Wealthy Flower" and the boatman's song. Its musical components are relatively complex. Due to the differences in the artists' mastery of these components, the singing styles of each person are different.
