Danjing Mountain is known as the "Flower Mountain". Every spring when the peony flowers bloom, officials from the prefecture to ordinary people in Pengzhou go to Danjing Mountain to "attend the fair", making the entire Tianpeng Peony Fair a scene of bustling traffic, music, singing and dancing. Pengzhou Danjing Mountain has been a Taoist and Buddhist holy land since the Han Dynasty, and religious festivals "Three Meetings" are held every year. As local officials, literati and ordinary people became more fond of Tianpeng peonies, Tianpeng peonies became an independent festival. In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, due to frequent wars and social unrest, Tianpeng peonies began to decline, but the Tianpeng Peony Fair was continued by local people despite its greatly reduced scale. In 1984, the then Peng County People's Government officially decided to revive the "Tianpeng Peony Fair". In 1985, the 10th Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Peng County decided to designate the peony as the "county flower" of Peng County. In April of the same year, the first "Tianpeng Peony Festival" after the founding of New China was held in Pengzhou. Since 1985, Pengzhou has held 24 consecutive Peony Festivals and Peony Festivals, each of which lasts about a month. Pengzhou's Peony Festival has been called the three largest and most influential peony festivals in the country, along with the "Luoyang Peony Festival" and the "Heze International Peony Festival".
