The earliest form of Zichang Yangko was the temple fair Yangko, commonly known as the old Yangko. Every Spring Festival, the president of the temple fair selects the umbrella head and organizes the Yangko rehearsal. Before the "Yangko" on the second day of the first lunar month (or the seventh or eighth day), the president leads the Yangko team to worship the temple to drive away evil and pray for good weather and peace for everyone. After thousands of years of evolution and development, it has become a comprehensive folk art with folk dance as the main body, integrating folk music, fine arts, crafts, opera, literature, juggling, boxing, etc. as one furnace. Going door to door to pay New Year's greetings is commonly known as "Paimen Yangko" or "Yanmen Yangko". It is said that whichever house the Yangko team arrives at can eliminate disasters and ensure peace in all seasons. Therefore, people always can't help but join in this activity, making it earth-shaking and joyful. Therefore, it is called "making a fuss about Yangko" and "making a fuss about prosperity". It can be seen that the word "Yangko" has two meanings: in a broad sense, it is a general term for all literary and artistic activities during the Spring Festival; in a narrow sense, it is a collective dance performance by a yangko team. The yangko team is composed entirely of men, ranging from 20 to 30 people to nearly 100 people. The male role is called "Kuaiguzi", with paper flowers tied on his head, a short stick in his hand, dressed in a warrior's outfit, and his movements are vigorous and powerful; the female role is played by men, so it is called "Baotoude" or "Zhuangshenzi", with a scarf on his head and flowers, wearing a colorful silk dress on the upper body, and a foot-covering skirt on the lower body, holding a colorful fan in his hand, walking in a balanced manner, twisting like a water float, and being quiet and elegant. The main props of yangko are umbrellas, fans, long silks, etc. Yangko is very particular about movements and steps. It can be roughly divided into two categories, one is to choreograph movements with umbrellas, long silks, and bare hands, and the other is to choreograph movements with colorful fans. The basic movements of umbrella, silk and bare hands are: single hand swing, double hand swing, single hand flip, double hand flip; the basic steps are: flat step, cross step, three steps and one stop, corner step, interlaced step, forward step, hand flip and single jump step, etc. The movements of the colorful fan yangko singer are mainly "holding fan, pressing fan, holding fan, opening fan, closing fan, horizontal fan, vertical fan, reverse fan, twisting fan, etc.; the basic steps are: flat step double flower, flat step pulling fan, fan cross step, small step wrapping fan, small step throwing fan, etc. Men and women have the same movements but different temperaments. Yangko activities are mainly carried out in two forms: "crossing the street (road)" and "setting up the field". It is mainly divided into: "temple worship yangko", "New Year's greeting yangko", "colorful gate yangko", "field step yangko", "lantern yangko", "nine-bend yangko", etc.
