The Shangyuan Shazhou Festival began in the Song Dynasty. Legend has it that it is the day when the heavenly official was born and blessed. It has been passed down from generation to generation year after year. There are more than 200 poems and songs praising Shazhou that have been passed down from generation to generation. Among them, "Egret Island Fu (with Preface)" and "Egret Island Fu" (with Ershui Bailuzhou as the rhyme) recorded in "Sinan Prefecture Continued Records" are representative works. There are magical and beautiful folk legends and colorful stones for viewing and collection. The Shangyuan Shazhou Festival in Sinan preserves the traditional folk culture characterized by folk beliefs in the Wujiang River Basin in Northeast Guizhou, especially in Sinan, the cultural and educational center of the middle and lower reaches of the Wujiang River, and its surrounding areas. It inherits various traditional performing arts forms and is an important basis for studying the worldview and living conditions of the people in the Wujiang River Basin in Northeast Guizhou. It plays an irreplaceable role in folklore research and has become a deep-rooted spiritual bond for the people of Sinan. The custom of visiting Luzhou on the 15th day of the first lunar month in Sitang Town has a history of more than a thousand years since before the Song Dynasty. From ancient times to the present, every fifteenth day of the first lunar month, people dress up, bring the elderly and children, and take a boat to the sandbar for sightseeing. There are various entertainment projects on the island, including stalls, taking photos, horseback riding, toys and snacks, etc. After the tour, they are reluctant to leave the island, or take photos, or write poems, or pick up a few strange and colorful stones as a souvenir. Every fifteenth day of the first lunar month, no matter it is sunny, rainy or snowy, people in the county (suburbs) bring the elderly and children, cross the boat and meet on the island. The pebbles on Luzhou have the characteristics of the Wuling Mountains, which are round, smooth, colorful and can be played with. It has formed a kind of festival folk culture. In ancient times, there were many people who were exiled from Shaanxi here, so it is suspected to be an old custom of outing in Chang'an during the Tang Dynasty.
