Guizhou
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Huizhou ancestral sacrifice is an ancient traditional folk culture. Ancestor worship is an important ritual activity of Huizhou clans. In Huizhou, the most important ancestral worship activity is the ancestral sacrifice. The ancestral sacrifice is a sacrificial activity held in the ancestral hall. It is a sacrificial activity for people of the same clan to gather together. The requirements are very strict. It is a ritual of repaying the ancestors. It is generally presided over by the clan leader or the eldest son of the clan. Sacrifices are divided into clan sacrifices and house sacrifices. Clan sacrifices are presided over by the clan leader, who is a senior person in the clan with many children and grandchildren and high moral character. House sacrifices are presided over by the head of each house. In Yixian ancestral sacrifices, such as the Xidi Mingjing Hu clan ancestral sacrifice, from the third to the seventh day of the first lunar month, the clan leader is the presiding priest; on the ninth and fifteenth days of the first lunar month, the house sacrifices are presided over by the head of each house (i.e. the head of the house old official). In November 2014, "Huizhou ancestral sacrifices" were approved by the State Council to be included in the fourth batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative projects.
