Quanzhou drum dance is popular in Quanzhou, Jinjiang, Nan'an and other places in southern Fujian. The content is about the story of Liangshan heroes in "Water Margin" who disguised themselves and sneaked into Daming Mansion to save Lu Junyi. The characters are Lu Zhishen (holding wooden fish), Gu Dasao (holding copper cymbals), Sun Erniang (holding flat drums), Ruan Xiaoer (holding drumsticks), Shi Qian (holding double bells), Yan Qing (holding small cymbals), a total of six people. If there are eight people, Shi Xiu (holding a grass gong) and Hu Sanniang (holding "four pieces") are added. Quanzhou drum dance is usually performed in welcoming gods and parades and performing Nuo parades. He Qiaoyuan's "Minshu" in the Ming Dynasty recorded that "the statues of gods were compared, stories were dressed up, jewels were decorated, bells and drums shook the golden fields, and the whole country was crazy." In the ancient folk customs of Quanzhou, whenever there were welcoming gods, birthdays, Buddha's birthdays, incense cutting, fire begging, ancestor worship, temple fairs and other activities, Quanzhou drum dance would participate, and the people would also invite them to perform at weddings and funerals. The simple folk customs have been passed down from generation to generation, and Quanzhou drum dance has a history of six or seven hundred years. The protagonist of the drum dance team is the drum dancer, who dances with the drumstick holder. The drum performance forms include single drum, hard drum, soft drum, slow drum, tight drum, and tap drum, etc. The performance patterns include stick drum, rotating drum, left and right drum, lying drum, split drum, etc., with superb skills. The other dancers each hold percussion instruments in their hands, and dance and beat in two rows while marching, accompanied by the percussion "Cai Cai, Qi Cai, Qi Cai, Kuang", with waist rotation, light movements, funny and free jumping. The dance steps include "Seven Steps Flip", "Grinding Foot Moving", "Kui Xing Kick Fighting", "Iron Crutch Spiritual Head", "Dong Bin Carrying Sword", etc., which are humorous, lively and free. Quanzhou drum dance has a long history. It has been passed down from generation to generation with Quanzhou's profound folk customs.
