Youxi County is the birthplace of Zhu Xi, a famous thinker and educator in the Southern Song Dynasty of my country. A large number of relics of the sage Zhu Xi are still preserved. Youxi County's activities to commemorate Zhu Xi can be traced back to the first year of Jiaxi in the Southern Song Dynasty (1237), when the county magistrate Li Xiu donated funds to build Wengong Temple, Weizhai Temple, Banmu Square Pond and Zundao Hall at the foot of Gongshan Mountain in the south of the county to commemorate Zhu's father and son. After that, every spring and autumn and the 15th day of the ninth lunar month, the people of Youxi County held a sacrificial ceremony at Wengong Temple of Nanxi Academy, the birthplace of Zhu Xi, to commemorate this sage. The Zhu Xi Sacrifice Ceremony is a large-scale temple event in Youxi County to worship Zhu Xi. It is a comprehensive art performance form that integrates music, singing, dancing and rituals. The offerings include: pastries, fruits, sacrificial offerings, etc. At the beginning of the ceremony, all the ceremonial staff followed the routine. After the chief priest announced the start of the ceremony, three cannons were fired, the band played sacrificial music, and the chief priest led the crowd to perform three offerings to Zhu Xi (first offering, second offering, and final offering). The sacrificial activities were quite ancient. The ceremony to worship Zhu Xi followed the ancient system, and showed the world the sacred and solemn ceremony through the content and form of the sacrifice. Now the ceremony has been simplified from the "three sacrifices" that began in the fourth year of Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty (1491) to one sacrifice on the 15th day of the ninth lunar month every year, the birthday of Zhu Xi. In recent years, Youxi County has raised funds to repair the ancient building complex of Nanxi Academy and Kaishan Academy, increase the research and inheritance of Zhuzi culture, inherit the fine cultural traditions, and promote Zhuzi culture.
