Zhuxi, Tianzhu County, Guizhou Province, holds a community festival from the first to the fifth day after the beginning of spring every year. Zhuxi is located in the northern part of Tianzhu County, Guizhou Province. It reaches Gongshan Village, Lantian Town, in the east, Sanduan Village, Bangdong Town, and Gongxi Township, Xinhuang Dong Autonomous County, Hunan Province, in the west, Lantian Town in the south, and Zhongzhai Town, Xinhuang Dong Autonomous County, Hunan Province in the north. It covers an area of 38.69 square kilometers and has two villages, Zhuxi and Xiazhai, with a total of 79 villagers' groups, 50 natural villages, and 5,717 people. It is a Dong ethnic group settlement area. Zhuxi Community Festival, located 30 kilometers north of Tianzhu County at the junction of Hunan and Guizhou, has a long history. According to legend, in the fifth year of Tongzhi (1866), malaria infected the people, and there was no medicine for seeking medical treatment. Countless people died, and no one cultivated the fields or planted the land. People could not live, and there were groups of refugees. The trees in the fields grew as big as bowls, which not only brought disasters to the people, but also bandits took the opportunity to rob money and kill innocent people, making people miserable. In the eighth year of Tongzhi (1869), Ouyang Tao, a student of Puxi, Qin Dasong of Zhuxi, and Yang Xiuli, a magistrate of Huangzhou, Hunan Province, secretly met with the leaders of more than 20 villages in the surrounding area to hold a meeting on self-defense and chaos control at "Jiaogunao" behind Zhuxi Street on the day of the Spring Festival to discuss and formulate a good strategy for living in peace. It was agreed that: 1. Unity and concentration; 2. Concentration of strength; 3. Concentration of signals. Whenever and wherever there is a bandit invasion, five consecutive iron cannon shots will be fired from the top of the high slope. Then the firing will be passed from village to village to gather the villagers from all places and work together to suppress the bandits. From then on, the local bandits no longer disturbed, and the people of Zhuxi and its neighboring areas lived and worked in peace. The following year (1870), people from all villages brought wine and food to "Jiaogunao" to celebrate. They proposed that from then on, every fifth day of the "Wu" community festival, men, women, old and young would gather in this valley to celebrate the "community festival", and "Jiaogunao" was designated as the community venue for the "Zhuxi Community Festival". Later, every time the "Zhuxi Community Festival" came, men, women, old and young, dressed up and went to the community to sing songs to praise the peace and prosperity of the country. The "Zhuxi Community Festival" also became a place for singing competitions, bird fighting and young people to talk about love, which has been passed down to this day. Before and on the day of the She Festival, the Dong people in Zhuxi have to do three things: First, "avoid Wu", that is, from the first Wu day after the beginning of spring to the fifth Wu day, every Wu day is forbidden to plow the field, break the ground, carry water, carry manure, pound rice, push the mill, etc. This is the local saying "One Wu is heaven and earth, two Wu is oneself, three Wu is cattle and horses, and four Wu is spring"; second, cook She rice. On the day of the Wu Festival, every household in the local area celebrates this grand festival by eating She rice. She rice is cooked with rice and glutinous rice until half cooked, then mixed with bacon nails, big vegetables, wormwood, shallots, garlic, ginger, lard, salt, etc., and simmered over low heat before eating. She rice is fragrant, soft and delicious, with a unique flavor. There is also a special custom, which is "hanging the community tomb". If a family of the Zhuxi Dong people has a relative who has just passed away for less than three years, the family will cook rice and fry meat in the morning, and take knife heads, incense paper, cannons, etc. to worship the ancestors and visit the tombs of relatives. The whole family will bow three times in front of the tomb to express respect and mourn for the deceased relatives, and ask for blessings for the descendants and the health of the young and old. In addition, young men and women will talk about love with songs, or fight birds and race birds, and sing and have fun. Zhuxi Community Festival has preserved the traditional folk culture characterized by folk beliefs in the northern Dong area, especially in Zhuxi area and surrounding areas of Tianzhu County, Guizhou Province. At the same time, community festival activities are social activities for the masses to entertain themselves, with cohesion, and play an inestimable role in enhancing the spirit of unity, friendship and mutual assistance among the masses, creating stability and unity, and building a harmonious society. From the 1960s to the mid-1980s, the Zhuxi Community Festival was basically stopped and gradually resumed in 1998. In recent years, every time the She Festival comes, Dong men and women from Tianzhu County, Guizhou Province and Xinhuang, Zhijiang, Jingzhou, Huitong County (Cities) in Hunan Province gather here to cook She rice, hang out with She relatives, sing She songs, sing and dance to celebrate the She Festival.
