"Licheng Chen's Craft Sculpture" is a folk craft sculpture art that began in the Song Dynasty. After the baptism and sedimentation of history, the Chen's sculpture skills are still systematically preserved and passed on. Its craft sculptures are the artists' ingenious use of their "carving" and "molding" characteristics. First, "carving" is a magical work, and "vivid, elegant, simple and simple traditional art works" are carved on hard materials such as wood, stone, and jade; second, "molding" turns mud into magic, and it takes a few minutes to make a statue for people on the spot, creating simple, atmospheric, and life-rich works of art. In January 2009, "Licheng Chen's Craft Sculpture" was announced by the Putian Municipal People's Government as the second batch of Putian City's intangible cultural heritage list. Putian craft sculpture has a long history and has a history of thousands of years. In the Tang Dynasty, Putian craft sculptures were seen in architectural decorations, Buddha statues, and engraved books. In the Song Dynasty, Chen Zhensun, the ancestor of Chen's craft sculpture, was a book engraver and sculptor. He engraved Cai Xiang's "Lizhi Pu", "Kaiyuan Tianbao Yisheng" and "Nengkao Jingji"; Ma Yuan's Guan Yu portrait, which was carved with flat carving, is still preserved in Wanshou Temple. In the Qing Dynasty, Putian's craft sculpture art showed brilliant glory. During the Yongzheng period (1723-1735), You Bohuan of Youqiao (Daili Township) was good at carving red sandalwood figures, and the style of vase bases was rigorous and ancient. During the Qianlong period, Putian Houyang artists made gold-plated openwork flower baskets, which were selected as tribute to the Qing Palace and are now preserved in the Palace Museum in Beijing. Tie Dinggong, the ancestor of Chen's craft sculpture, led a group of descendants to personally design, carve and build the "Qingyuan Temple" (Xia Ting, Haopu Village, Gongchen, Licheng District) and the "Yushi Mansion" ancestral hall (Dongyang Village, Gongchen), which were listed as municipal cultural relics protection units. During the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, Putian craft sculptures were mainly engaged in architectural sculptures and statue modeling for temples and residential buildings. During this period, Chen Bishun, the inheritor of the Chen family's craft sculptures, used his professional skills to design and lead artists to carve and build "four-room, five-room, and seven-room residential buildings", such as the "Chen Yuqing Former Residence" in Xia Ting Village, Haopu, Licheng District, which has been listed in the fourth batch of cultural relics protection units by the municipal government. The roof frames, beams, spider plants, cloud seats, and pine, plum, chrysanthemum, and bamboo are all top-notch works of art. In the 1950s and 1960s, professional craft sculpture institutions represented by Putian Craft Factory No. 1 emerged, focusing on building the Putian craft sculpture brand, organizing creations and participating in domestic and foreign exhibitions many times, which attracted attention. In the 1960s and 1970s, Putian craft sculpture products went abroad, exported innovatively, had a wide impact, and achieved remarkable results. Since the reform and opening up, Fang Wentao, She Guoping, Huang Dangui, the inheritors of Putian wood carving, A group of masters including Chen Guohua seized the opportunity, founded individual wood carving enterprises and achieved success, thus attracting a large number of folk artists to return to their old business and promoting the rapid development of Putian wood carving. Chen's craft sculpture has a long history and its own system. In the special geographical and cultural environment of Putian, it inherits the tradition, constantly innovates, develops, writes glory, and passes it down from generation to generation to this day. The stone carvings "Guan Gong and Zhou Cang" and "Guan Gong Reading the Spring and Autumn Annals" created by the successor Chen Guohua won the "National Light Industry Ministry Arts and Crafts Hundred Flowers Award Quality Award" (Gold Award) and the second prize in the country respectively. The boxwood carving work "Horse Travels Thousands of Miles" was selected as a national treasure and is collected by the Fujian Provincial Government Treasure Museum. The boxwood carving work "Drunk" created in the 1990s won the "Zhengyan Cup" Silver Cup Award of the Provincial People's Government. It is the highest award for this year's wood carving works and is collected by the Fujian Provincial Government. It is collected by the Treasure Museum of the Fujian Provincial People's Government. In recent years, at the National Arts and Crafts Masters Exhibition in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and other places, more than 30 sculptures created by Chen Chunyang and Chen Chunhui, the new generation of "Chen's Craft Sculpture", have won gold, silver and bronze awards at the National Arts and Crafts Exhibition. Among them, the sculpture "Tiger Baby" was selected for the "Sixth National Sports Art Exhibition" and was selected as a national treasure. It was collected by the "China Olympic Committee" and displayed in the National Sports Museum. It also won the special prize of the "Hundred Flowers Art Award" established by the Fujian Provincial People's Government and the "Hundred Flowers Art Award" of the Putian Municipal People's Government. It is also the only wood carving work in Fujian Province to win this honor since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Three large stone relief works "Dragon Soaring", "Double Phoenix Presenting Auspiciousness" and "Turtle and Unicorn Offering Longevity" were created and carved for the Chinese Mazu Culture Research Institute. The large-scale craft sculptures "Mazu Saves the World" and "Jinghai Escort" are masterpieces of Mazu-themed relief works across the country. They are first-class in art and add color to the dissemination of Mazu culture and the application for "World Heritage" to the United Nations. Nowadays, Chen's craft sculptures have combined the strengths of many schools and have taken their own path. They can "carve" and "sculpt", combining the two into one, with comprehensive craftsmanship. Its characteristics are: First, the artistic level of "carving". Only a large axe is used in the wood carving, and a figure of more than ten centimeters is split out in more than ten minutes. Its artistic level can be called "one axe equals nine chisels" and "supernatural work". The second is the artistic level of "sculpting". Using the soil of Mazu's hometown to sculpt a statue for a person on the spot with his hands in a few minutes, his artistic level can be called "turning soil into magic" and "reshaping style", and his artistic achievements have entered CCTV. Its craft sculpture art level is unique and can be called a unique Putian craft sculpture art. The formation of Chen's craft sculpture style originated from the special humanistic and geographical environment of Putian. Its artistic style is to learn from others and give full play to the "carving" and "sculpting" in craft sculptures to achieve a magical realm of integration. Its artistic works are appreciated by both the refined and the popular, and are a perfect combination of traditional art and modern art. Since the Song Dynasty, Chen Zhensun, the ancestor of Chen's craft sculptures, has engraved Cai Xiang's "Lychee Spectrum", "Kaiyuan Tianbao Yisheng" and "Nengkao Jingji" and other works, which have been circulated in the world and are now preserved in Wanshou Temple. It has always inspired Chen's descendants to continue to carry forward and prosper, and has been passed down to this day after the efforts of their predecessors. Today, Chen's descendants are boldly innovative by combining traditional art with modern art, and have won honors one after another. At the same time, we continue to strengthen the training of reserve talents for craft sculptures, lay a solid foundation for Putian's arts and crafts industry, and make unremitting efforts.
