🎧  Listen to Introduction

Dunhuang paintings and calligraphy mainly include antique murals, Silk Road style paintings, mounted paintings, simulated mural fragments (mud skin paintings), calligraphy, pebble paintings and cultural relics rubbings, among which antique murals are the best. Antique murals are copied and processed based on the colorful Mogao Grottoes art. There are three forms: objective copying, copying and creative copying. The lines of the murals are smooth, the colors are bright, and they have a certain decorative beauty and primitive beauty. Dunhuang calligraphy is mainly based on the posthumous books unearthed from the Sutra Cave, and there are also a large number of Dunhuang bamboo slips unearthed. Its style is unique and all-encompassing, and it is called "scripture style". The hard pen calligraphy in the Dunhuang posthumous books is unprecedented in the history of Chinese calligraphy. From the end of the Han Dynasty to the Western Jin Dynasty, two great calligraphers, Zhang Zhi and Suo Jing, appeared. Zhang Zhi was regarded as the Saint of Cursive Script. His "Champion Post" was majestic and powerful. Suo Jing was good at eight-point script, and his "Yueyi Post" and "Ode to the Master" were circulated. Since ancient times, Dunhuang has been a prosperous literary style and has produced many talents. Influenced by this trend, the trend of studying calligraphy and painting in Dunhuang is still thriving. (Dunhuang)
