Huan County belongs to Qingyang City, Gansu Province. It is located at the junction of Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia provinces. It covers an area of 9,236 square kilometers, has 20 townships (towns) under its jurisdiction, and has a population of 340,000. It was once a place where the Xiongnu, Qiang, Rong, Di and other ethnic groups interacted and the ancient Qinlong culture and multi-ethnic cultures collided and merged. The special geographical location and profound cultural heritage gave birth to the national folk art of "Huan County Daoqing Shadow Play". Huan County Daoqing Shadow Play is the product of the combination of "Daoqing" and shadow play, and has a history of thousands of years. After vicissitudes, Huan County has formed a unique Daoqing shadow play. After the reform and innovation of a generation of people such as Jie Changchun, the "Daoqing Shadow Play Master" in the late Qing Dynasty, it has been further improved. It is integrated with the customs and beliefs of the local people, forming a current situation of spreading with Huan County as the center, extending to the surrounding Huachi, Qingcheng, Yanchi, Ningxia, Dingbian, Shaanxi and other counties. Its value is mainly reflected in the beautiful and unique Daoqing music singing and the exquisite shadow play production and performance. When the troupe performs, one person on the stage performs with a pole and takes on the sitting and reciting lines of all the characters, while four or five people in the backstage accompany and "Ma Huang". One person sings and the others join in, which is rough and high-pitched, with a unique style. Daoqing music is fine-tuned, divided into "Shangyin" and "Huayin", and is sung at two speeds, flat board and flying board, with both qupai and board styles. The four-stringed, fishing drum, swinging bangzi, and simple board instruments are all homemade, with unique timbre. Among the more than 180 plays sung, ancient cultural symbols such as "picture" and "scroll" are still preserved. Thousands of original Qing Dynasty shadow puppets in the collection and folk circulation are wonderfully conceived, delicately carved and lifelike, and have extremely high artistic and research value. According to the census, there are 47 troupes, 285 artists, and more than 40 shadow puppet carvers in the county. In the 1950s, Huanxian Daoqing shadow puppets were performed in Beijing three times, which were highly praised by leaders such as Mao Zedong and 1, and eventually developed into the only local opera in Gansu, Long Opera.
