Meishan paper-cutting is a general term for folk paper-cutting art popular in Anhua, Yiyang, with Meishan culture as its background. Its representative is the paper-cutting data provided by Xiang Liangjing, a paper-cutting artist who grew up in Guangming Village, Xianxi Town, Anhua County, which reflects the status of modern paper-cutting activities in Yiyang City. In 2009, the Yiyang Municipal Government determined that the paper-cutting art in this state was an intangible cultural heritage of Yiyang City through relevant expert demonstration, so it was named "Meishan Paper-cutting". "Meishan Paper-cutting" has a profound historical and cultural origin. In traditional life, it is mainly manifested in: sacrificial activities, wedding celebrations, major festivals, birthdays, childbirth, shoe patterns, life decorations, and life entertainment (shadow play). In a specific historical environment, Meishan paper-cutting is an indispensable spiritual food for the local people. The "Anhua County Chronicles" in the 16th year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty recorded: "The local customs in the Meishan area are pure and ancient, and their customs are mostly generous." In Meishan witchcraft activities, it is necessary to cut various peach charms and paper money with local paper, and these activities have been passed down to this day. Paper banners during the Qingming Festival, paper money burning during the Zhongyuan Festival, the traditional "Zha Ming House" in Meishan area, and wreaths for funerals, these sacrificial activities have strict folk customs. Door paper is only posted on the lintel on New Year's Eve. There is a folk proverb: "Posting door paper, say goodbye to debt collectors; tearing off door paper, say goodbye to New Year's greetings." The door paper is usually torn off after the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. Door paper has a clear direction here. Wedding paper-cutting with "goose" as the main pattern is the most important feature of Meishan paper-cutting. Wedding paper-cutting not only expresses joy, but also has many taboos. Paper-cutting activities are carried out according to the number of rooms in the host's house. When a married daughter gives birth to a child, the grandmother cuts egg flowers on the eggs and sticks them on them. As the primary gift, she carries them in a basket to her daughter's house to congratulate her. Frangipani is a unique form of Meishan folk custom. Folk embroidery and wood carving in Meishan area must first cut patterns out of paper, and then work according to paper cutting. In the past, shadow play was popular in Meishan area, and the shadow figures in shadow play were works of art made of paper cutting. Modern Meishan paper-cutting artist Xiang Liangjing has innovated three-dimensional paper-cutting based on traditional skills, which has been popularized and promoted nationwide and spread all over the world. Three-dimensional paper-cutting has risen rapidly, and "Meishan paper-cutting" artists have played a model role in inheritance and development. Meishan paper-cutting has very obvious regional characteristics and is the brightest color in Meishan folk activities. Traditional Meishan paper-cutting has gradually faded with the changes in culture and the development of the times. Some have disappeared with the disappearance of folk activities. In the existing folk activities, most of them have been replaced by mechanical products. Meishan paper-cutting urgently needs us to organize and rescue and protect it.
