Huitong in southwestern Hunan is located in the south of Huaihua City. It has a long history, rich cultural heritage and extremely rich intangible cultural heritage. The bullfighting dance in Lianshan is a typical representative of it. The Lianshan bullfighting dance has an ancient origin and is popular in Lianshan Township, Tuanhe Town and Gaoyi Township of Huitong County. It is a totem dance for people to pray for a good harvest of crops. It is related to the primitive agriculture and cattle plowing and rice planting during the Shennong Yandi period, and the ancestors of Huitong were one of the earliest farming nations in the south. Therefore, the original ecology of the bullfighting dance should be the ancient plowing era, which is nearly 5,000 years ago. The number of bullfighting dance performers ranges from eight to sixteen, with two shepherds, and each cow is played by two people, one playing the cow head and one playing the cow tail. There are also three people performing, two holding the cow head and fighting, and one playing the role of Luohan. There is no fixed routine for the performance of Lianshan Bullfighting Dance, which is quite random. The dance movements mainly imitate the life and fighting forms of cattle, such as performing various living habits of cattle, such as eating grass, grinding grass, 0 hair, bouncing legs, touching backs, loving ponds, etc., and plowing and harrowing fields. There are tactics such as diagonal, corner, hook, trip, bump, kick, etc. in the fight. Although the bull fight is tense, it is accompanied by the performance of the two shepherds, who shout, whip, pull the tail, lead the nose of the bull, and finally attack the bull with fire to separate it. Each plot is closely connected, and the movements are delicate and realistic. The bull is played vividly, which makes people feel like they are there, making the whole dance look relaxed and interesting. In the early 1960s, our county carried out a folk art survey, recorded and sorted the dance, sent it to the regional art museum, and included it in the collection of folk dances in Huaihua area, and later collected it in the collection of folk dances in Hunan Province. In 2009, the first national cultural seminar on the hometown of Emperor Yan of Huitong was held in Huitong. Lianshan Bullfighting Dance was performed as a folk cultural program, reflecting the primitive cultural form of Emperor Yan in Huitong, and attracted widespread attention from experts and scholars.
