According to the "Bao'an County Chronicles" "Mass Culture" (page 716), "Folk dances mainly include the Xin'an Duoxing Lion Dance, which is a Cantonese lion dance; it is accompanied by big gongs and drums, and also includes swords, spears, swords and halberds. The martial arts scenes are magnificent. "Huang Liansheng (formerly known as Huang Shenghua), the founder of the "Shangchuan Huang Liansheng Lion Dance Troupe", was born in Shanghe Village, Xin'an Street, Bao'an District in 1906 (see commemorative photos). He is a legendary patriot. When he was young, he learned martial arts from masters. After the 1930s, he opened martial arts schools in Hong Kong, the Netherlands, and India, and taught more than 10,000 people. According to Hong Kong Huang Jinhui (1942), before liberation (about 47 years ago), Huang Liansheng led Bao'an lion dances to the Chiwan Mazu Temple Fair in Shekou several times to compete with lion dances from all over the country. Traditional lion dances are mainly performed on the platform. Before the new lion dances for the first time, it needs to undergo a ceremony of opening and dotting the eyes. The lion dance that has been opened has life and spirit and can be performed. The lion dance passed down by Huang Liansheng has two characteristics. One is that it is guided by martial arts, showing a martial arts routine with bare hands or weapons, showing the audience that martial arts is the foundation. This characteristic has been preserved to this day. The second is that the lion dance is a "martial lion", wild and fierce, with great ups and downs in movements and swift and agile steps. This characteristic has changed now. The gongs and drums are accompanied by three, five, and seven-star drums as needed. The current drum beats have changed. The lion dance troupe was formed in the early 1970s. After hard training, it created a reputation. The surrounding villages invited him to run a troupe to pass on his skills. The establishment of a branch of the lion dance troupe set off a lion dance craze, bringing out six teams from Shanghe, Hedong, Hexi, Kaiping, Yantian, and Oyster Industry. In the early 1990s, Xin'an Town won the first place in Shanghe and the second place in Hedong in two consecutive lion dance competitions. The lion dance troupe was invited to perform to add to the fun at the farewell ceremony for the Hong Kong garrison in 1997 and the opening ceremony of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Bridge on April 7, 2007. Since the beginning of the new century, the lion dance troupe has been one of the key projects in the street reunion activities from the Spring Festival to the Lantern Festival every year.
