The Eshan Yi Flower Drum Dance, called "Zhebobi" in Yi language, is popular in the Yi villages of Eshan Yi Autonomous County, Yuxi City. There are a large number of Yi Flower Drum Dances distributed in Shuangjiang Town, Xiaojie Town, Dianzhong Town, Huanian Town, Tadian Town, Dalongtan Township, Fuliangpeng Township, and Chahe Township, and there are regular activities. The Flower Drum Dance was introduced to Eshan in the late Qing Dynasty (1898) and became popular throughout the county during the Republic of China period. The Flower Drum Dance, which has been passed down to this day, as one of the traditional cultural expressions created by the Yi people, has become an indispensable spiritual food for the Yi people to amuse themselves and inspire themselves. The Eshan Yi Flower Drum Dance was originally used for funerals and sacrifices, and was later widely used in folk activities such as weddings, funerals, laying foundations, the completion of new houses, and welcoming gods and sending off ancestors. It has now become the main content of ceremonial guards and square performances. The flower drum dance is performed by five people. The "dragon head" leads the dance with the tail of the chicken. The other four dancers tie the flower drum on their left waist and beat it with the hammer in their right hand. The basic steps are jumping, with variations such as stepping, turning, turning, padding, stomping, and jumping. The flower drum dance has two rhythms, fast and slow. The slow rhythm is called "bangu", which is powerful, resolute and calm; the fast rhythm is called "jingu", which is lively and unrestrained. Except for the routines such as "step dance", "dot footsteps", "little rabbit dance", and "enter 1 three" which are slow drums, the rest are tight drums. The Eshan flower drum dance is a combination of Yi and Han song and dance culture. When dancing, the original Chinese flower lantern tune is sung. Now some places sing the Yi language or the "jumping music tune" of half Yi and half Han. Since the flower drum dance was introduced to Eshan, it has integrated the movements of "tough feet", "stomping feet", "jumping feet", and "leading steps" in the "jumping music" of the Eshan Yi people. There are 35 routines such as "four-in-one heart" and "snake shedding skin", which imitate animals, reflect production labor or are named after things in nature. Most of these routines are performed in a continuous or interspersed combination. Sometimes, there are multiple routines combined in one dance. They can also be performed separately. The forms are flexible and diverse, with an artistic style that is similar to both Yi and Han, and have high artistic and ornamental value. The flower drum dance needs to be taught by a master in terms of movement routines and performance procedures. It must be learned specifically to master the skills. There are ways of inheritance between villages, inheritance within the village, inheritance within the family, and a few self-study methods, and the mass base is good. According to a survey in July 2004, there were 594 flower drum teams and 7,251 drummers in Eshan County, and more than 10,000 people who can dance the flower drum dance. Flower drum dance performances are continuous all year round, and various communities, townships, and villages often organize competitions or friendly performances. It has become a highlight in festivals such as the Torch Festival of the Yi Nationality. It has participated in national, provincial, and municipal performances many times and won awards. It is the "county dance" loved by the people of the county. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
