Dihuagu (commonly known as Huaguzi) is one of the ancient folk dances of the Han nationality that is popular in Zigui, Xingshan, Yichang and other counties in Yichang City. It is a singing form with singing and dancing. According to the legends passed down by the ancestors of the old artists, it has a history of at least 200 years. The lines and singing of "playing Huaguzi at the age of two a week, playing in nine states and thirteen prefectures" also show that it has a long history. Dihuagu belongs to the category of lantern dance. It was originally limited to traditional festivals such as the Spring Festival and interspersed with the activities of making a fuss about lanterns. It was performed together with "lions", "dragon lanterns" and "colorful lotus boats". It was full of singing and dancing, with vivid plots, simple content, and humorous performances. This cultural custom later gradually entered the field of people's daily life, and the folks also played Huaguzi when organizing weddings and funerals. Dihuagu is mostly performed by two people, one is a dan and the other is a clown (dressed as a pair of lovers or a couple). The dan role has been a man dressed as a woman since ancient times, and later it developed into a man dressed as a man and a woman dressed as a woman; there are also four, six, and eight people Huagu, with men and women in pairs. During the performance, the clown plays with a folding fan, and the female role holds a silk scarf. They do not play any characters, and there is no plot throughout. There are percussion accompaniments such as small drums, yinluo, big bowls, and horse gongs. The clown first appears in the sound of gongs and drums, holding a folding fan, chanting a preposition (entry poem), and then chatting with the gong and drum team, communicating with the audience, and making jokes. There are fixed lines and improvisations, and then the female role is invited to sing and dance. The clown's performance is humorous and generous, and the female role's performance is implicit and shy. The content of the Dihuagu performance is mostly about labor and love life, such as "Counting Flowers", "Visiting the Man", "Slave in 1 Dull", "Twelve Months", "Five Watches", "Ten Loves", etc. There are also historical stories and historical figures, such as "Mullet Seeking a Marriage", "Yutangchun", "Once Out of the Treasure Platform Facing East", "Once Entering the Door, Falling", etc. Some of the content is words of congratulations and blessings, and most of these are improvisations. The Dihuagu dance has novel movements, clear rhythms, beautiful dynamics, strong danceability, and fixed steps and shapes. The characteristics are sinking, buckling the chest, slightly bending the knees, twisting the waist, shaking the shoulders, and circling the fan. Regardless of the arrangement and shape, the female and the clown are very close to each other. When dancing back and forth, they are "back to back and face to face", and the length cannot exceed the length of a bench. Therefore, the performance is not limited by the venue. It can be performed in the main hall, rice field, house field, and steps. The singing style of the ground flower drum music mostly adopts folk songs and minor tunes. There is no fixed tune, which leads to the characteristics of liberal singing. In addition, artists from all over the country have infiltrated and used a large number of folk songs that they are familiar with, making the ground flower drum more vivid and rich, and the structure is complete. Although the ground flower drums in various places have the same origin, they have different styles and characteristics. Representative ones include Zigui Sanlv Flower Drum, Maoping Jiandong Flower Drum, Lianghe Tiao Flower Drum, Xintan Pipa Silk String, Xingshan Nanyang Ground Flower Drum, Hazelnut Ground Flower Drum, Gufu Ground Flower Drum, Gaoqiao Ground Flower Drum, Yichang Pingshanba Ground Flower Drum, Liantuo Ground Flower Drum, etc.
