Tiantai Zen Music

Hubei
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Tiantai Zen Music is performed by the first all-monk Zen music art troupe in the history of Chinese Buddhism. It is the first time that Tiantai Temple has promoted Zen music training as a practice method for Tiantai monks. At present, the art troupe can perform more than 30 different types of programs. Most of the dance performances of the art troupe express Buddhist content, such as the Buddhist hand seal dance "-Dance", which exaggerates and artisticizes the Buddhist hand seals with dance movements; the dance "Releasing River Lanterns" expresses the Buddhist tradition of remembering ancestors and transcending the souls of the dead on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month. The rehearsed musical situation drama "Tea Ceremony" showcases the Buddhist Zen tea culture. The chorus "Prayer Song" and "Dedication Gatha" are deep and powerful, allowing the audience to feel the charm of traditional Buddhist music.
