The Shayang Shiban Gongs and Drums, commonly known as "Shiban Family Assemblies" by the people, have a long history that cannot be verified. It can only be temporarily traced back to the Shiban Gongs and Drums that were circulated in Wuxi and Yixing during the Ming Dynasty. According to the Zhu Zuhong, a 20-year-old folk artist in Shayang County, who calculated the inheritance genealogy of the Zhu family, the Shayang Shiban Gongs and Drums had been widely circulated in Shayang at the latest in the middle of the Qing Dynasty. The Shayang Shiban Gongs and Drums Band consists of drums, gongs, cymbals, hook gongs, and large and small horse gongs. If classified according to the composition of the instruments of the Shiban Gongs and Drums, it can be called "Qing Gongs and Drums". In the process of evolution in Shayang, three schools named after Qingming Lake, Changhu Lake, Wuzengshen and other regions were formed, and at the same time, "Silk and Bamboo Gongs and Drums" with various forms of suona performances were derived. At present, "Shiban Family Assemblies" has been listed as a provincial intangible cultural heritage.
