Xiangshan Fishermen's Song
Xiangshan fishermen's songs are composed of fishermen's songs in traditional fishery production and boatmen's songs in the marine transportation industry, collectively known as fishermen's songs. It is a cultural phenomenon spontaneously created by fishermen and boatmen in long-term production and labor practice. It has a unique style and a strong marine life atmosphere, full of the optimistic spirit of fishermen (boatmen) and the majestic, heroic, simple and unrestrained personality, providing people with a carrier to understand and become familiar with the bold, rough and cheerful character of Xiangshan fishermen. Xiangshan is surrounded by the sea on three sides, with a tortuous coastline and many harbors, and the three famous fishing grounds of Damu, Maotou and Yushan. From the middle of the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China and until the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, tens of thousands of fishermen from the southeastern coastal provinces such as Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Fujian gathered in three fishing grounds to catch large yellow croaker, hairtail and other economic fish. Most of the fishing boats were moored in Shipu and Juexi in the county to process fish and make daily supplies. For this reason, Shipu (Dongmen) and Juexi became the main birthplace and inheritance of Xiangshan fishermen's songs. The fishermen's songs of Xiangshan were initially formed in the Tang and Song Dynasties, and reached a prosperous level from the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China. In the mid-1960s, as manual fishing operations were gradually replaced by mechanization, the heavy labor gradually became easier, the living space of the songs continued to shrink, and the fishermen's songs gradually disappeared. Before the mid-1960s, wooden sailboats were the main tools for fishing and maritime transportation in the Xiangshan fishing area. All processes on the ship were manually operated, and the collective labor was extremely heavy. Various processes required shouting to unify actions and regulate emotions, so a rich variety of songs was formed. The fishermen's songs of Xiangshan are divided into more than 20 types according to the process: "anchoring songs", "lifting sails songs", "rowing songs", etc.; according to the strength required for the operation, they can be divided into: large, one-sixth and small, and various types of songs are flexible and interchangeable. The fishermen's songs of Xiangshan are relatively complete in variety, rough and beautiful in tune, and have distinct marine cultural characteristics. They have profound historical value and unique artistic value. As a folk art form with Xiangshan's marine characteristics, Xiangshan fishermen's songs have been included in the rescue and protection process in the process of Xiangshan County's construction of a large marine cultural county, and have achieved substantial protection results through various methods and means. In 2006, the fishermen's songs team organized by Xiangshan County won the first prize in the National Songs Invitational Competition; in 2008, Xiangshan County was named the East Zhejiang Marine Fishery Culture Ecological Zone by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture; in 2009, "Xiangshan Fishermen's Songs" was listed in the Zhejiang Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage List. At present, under the attention of leaders at all levels, Xiangshan County is actively creating conditions and moving towards the goal of becoming a national marine culture (Xiangshan) ecological protection pilot zone.
