Qiujia'an Gongs and Drums are folk percussion instruments that are popular in Qiujia'an Village, Hengfeng Street. Originally used for lion dance accompaniment, they were later used for dragon dance accompaniment, festive ceremonies, stage performances, etc. In the late Qing Dynasty (around 1910), farmers in Qiujia'an spontaneously formed a lion dance team and carried out activities in local and neighboring villages during the Spring Festival every year. Lion dance cannot be without accompaniment, and Qiujia'an Gongs and Drums came into being. Later, rolling dragons also became popular in Hengfeng, and Qiujia'an Gongs and Drums also became the accompaniment of dragon dances. Gong and drum performances have been passed down from generation to generation, and the number of routines has gradually increased. In the early days of liberation, lion and dragon dances were particularly popular in rural areas, and Qiujia'an Gongs and Drums were extremely active; after the reform and opening up, Qiujia'an Gongs and Drums have regained their youth. In addition to frequently serving in village entertainment activities, they have also participated in large-scale city-level entertainment performances many times. The performance of Qiujia'an Gongs and Drums has gradually evolved from sitting, marching, and pure percussion to a procession-style interspersed with dance movements. The marching performance is the main one, which serves as the accompaniment of the lion and dragon dance teams, with its changing rhythm, changing music, creating atmosphere, and setting off the lion and dragon dances. The main tunes played are Thunder and Changdalou. The parade performance is mainly arranged in the form of dance for stage performance. The number of people is increased to 30, and the instruments are increased to flat drums and cymbals. The formation changes with the drum beats, and the basic drum beats remain unchanged.
