Around the middle of the Ming Dynasty, about three hundred years ago, Qianjiang already had "grass-pulling gongs and drums" and "water-wheeling gongs and drums", that is, playing music while working in the fields. At that time, they appeared in the fields in the form of "gongs and drums accompaniment, one singing and many joining in". With the changes of the times, "Qianjiang gongs and drums" have gradually become an irreplaceable and important part of Qianjiang's folk customs, habits, religion and folk art activities in the process of their development. Qianjiang gongs and drums are commonly known as "gongs and drums family business". The lineup of Qianjiang traditional gongs and drums is mainly divided into two categories: one is "Ten Kinds of Brocade". The other is "Five Brocade Heads". The main types of Qianjiang gongs and drums instruments are: big drum, hall drum, small drum, waist drum, small gong (hook gong), horse gong, big gong, copy gong (also known as double gong), earth gong, Su gong, cymbals, gold cymbals, etc. The important parts of Qianjiang gongs and drums are: drumsticks, gong sticks, hook gong sticks, horse gong sticks, cymbal ribbons, etc. If a big drum is used, a big drum stand needs to be made, which is made by the artist according to the needs. There are many kinds of traditional music cards of Qianjiang gongs and drums, and there are about ten fixed music cards in total. Local people call gongs and drums music cards "gongs and drums points" or "gongs and drums scores" or "gongs and drums scriptures". Qianjiang gongs and drums are closely related to the cultural life, labor production and aesthetic habits of the local people.
