Wude Town drum-lifting, also known as auspicious drum, was created in the early years of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty, and has a history of more than 300 years. In the late Qing Dynasty, some martial arts routines were incorporated into the drum-lifting performance, making the content richer, the form more diverse, the scale more grand, and the spread area more extensive. Every year at the local temple fair, dozens of drum teams from Wude Town, Wuzhi Wangshun, Zhoujiazhuang, etc. gather together to show their style and create a warm and peaceful festive atmosphere. There are nine drum performances, which are created based on the natural philosophy of the five sounds (gong, shang, jiao, zhi, and yu) in Chinese culture, the five directions (east, south, west, north, and center), and the yin and yang and five elements (gold, wood, water, fire, and earth). Each performance is a self-contained system with its own characteristics, and it always runs through the auspicious atmosphere of the three yangs opening the door to good fortune, implying auspiciousness every month and every year. The performances are intertwined, continuous, and endless, reflecting the Buddhist idea of "nine nines return to one". After liberation, Wude Town and Village purchased performance equipment and trained personnel again, creating a new situation for drum-lifting. We need to cultivate new talents to pass on the artistic treasures left by 0 and carry them forward."
