The Flower Pick Dance is commonly known as the Flower Pick. The Flower Pick group dance originated from Gushi, Xinyang. It has been passed down in Gushi County for more than 400 years and is widely spread in the Yangtze and Huaihe River Basin. The prop is a soft and elastic bamboo shoulder pole wrapped with colored paper, with a bamboo basket hanging at each end, and the outer edge of the bamboo basket is full of colored flowers. During the performance, a woman carries the "flower pick" and dances, forming a dancing state. There are roughly five traditional Gushi flower pick performances. Each township has a performance "class society", among which Jiangji is the most. The historical origin of the flower pick dance How the flower pick was first formed in Gushi is no longer verifiable, but there is a legend about the formation of the flower pick in Shangcheng County, which is not far away. During the Qing Dynasty, Prime Minister Zhou's family and General Hong's family were the top families in Shangcheng. In order to show the wealth of each family, they invited several groups of artists every year on the Lantern Festival to organize a lantern show. This year, the Zhou and Hong families began to compete in making lanterns on the thirteenth day of the first lunar month. The Zhou family showed off their flower umbrellas: Liu Erjie went to the fair; the Hong family showed off their flower cars; Li Ersao went to her parents' home; the Zhou family showed off their flower boats to sing about love, while the Hong family showed off their rowing to flirt; the Zhou family showed off their fork dance, while the Hong family showed off their big-headed monk to save Liu Cui; the Zhou family showed their five horses to defeat Cao, while the Hong family showed their donkey-riding to recommend talents. You release butterflies, I play 1, it's really a competition of beauty. The common people enjoyed a great feast for their eyes, and they all praised the two families' lanterns as being comparable. After a few days, all the existing lantern forms had been produced, what should they do? The young masters of the two families and the invited red lantern artists were thinking hard. At this time, the young master of the Zhou family suddenly saw the waiter carrying a load of fresh vegetables to the kitchen. He had an idea, and hurriedly called the artist to tell him his idea. The artists were ecstatic, and hurriedly found a craftsman to design a peach and let a young female carry it. With a clown on the left and a colorful female on the right, the drummers beat gongs and drums and went to the street in a hurry. People watched in amazement, but no one knew what this lantern was called. After the lantern wick sang a few lines, the leading artist shouted: "Hey, Hua Tiao, the wind is blowing!" People then knew that this lantern was called Hua Tiao. Since then, Hua Tiao has become popular. During every festival, temple fair, and festival, as long as there is a flower lantern festival, there must be Hua Tiao. It is said that this lantern has been performed in Beijing. There are roughly five traditional Gushi Hua Tiao performances. The props of Hua Tiao dance are a soft and elastic bamboo pole, which is wrapped with colored paper and has a bow-shaped flower canopy tied with bamboo strips. A bamboo basket is hung at each end of the pole, and the outer edge of the bamboo basket is filled with colorful paper flowers. During the performance, a woman carries the "Hua Tiao" and dances, forming a dancing state. Hua Tiao dance is mainly represented by the three-person Hua Tiao dance in Jiangji Town, Gushi County.
