The Yi people in Shuangbai County, Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, account for 47.8% of the total population. The tiger sheng, which is popular in the Yi areas such as Fazhen Town, - Town, and Yulong Township in Shuangbai County, is a sacrificial bionic dance and is known as the living fossil of the tiger culture of the Yi people in China. The Yi people regard the tiger as their ancestor and call themselves Luo Luo, "Luo" means tiger. There is a folk story in Xiaomaidi Chong Village, Fazhen Town, which tells that the immortal turned into two stone tigers to guard the village, so that the Yi people can live and work in peace and contentment, and the weather is good and the livestock is safe. In order to thank the two stone tigers and worship their ancestors, people imitate the tiger's movements and dance the tiger dance according to the habits and hobbies of the tiger. After continuous inheritance and development, a set of sacrificial activities in the form of tiger dancing has gradually formed. The tiger sheng dance is simple and traditional, with obvious national style and characteristics, and it has a very strong self-entertainment in the sacrifice. The tiger sheng dance in Xiaomaidi Chong Village, Fazhen Town is the most famous. The eight days from the eighth to the fifteenth day of the first lunar month are the "Tiger Festival", and the main activities include welcoming the tiger, jumping the tiger, offering sacrifices to the tiger, and sending the tiger away. The tiger dancers use black felt to make it look like tiger skin, and paint tiger patterns on the exposed parts of the body with paint. The whole person has to dress up like a tiger. Accompanied by gongs and drums, the Taoists dance in a circle, and there are many people outside the circle dancing the tiger dance. The tiger dance usually consists of 16 people, who are dressed as 8 tigers, 2 cats, 2 mountain gods, 1 Taoist, 2 drummers and 1 gong beater. The dancers form a column and march in a counterclockwise direction. On the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, the tiger dancers have to dance at the houses where incense and paper money are placed, which means to avoid disasters and difficulties. The dance movements of the Tiger Sheng are very rich, some of which imitate the movements and habits of tigers, such as tiger kissing, tiger building bridges, tiger rubbing, etc.; there are also movements that simulate farming activities such as delivering fertilizer, plowing, harrowing, sowing seedlings, planting, pulling seedlings, and harvesting. It has a strong breath of life, the scene is grand, the rhythm is brisk, the shock is strong, and the participation of the masses is wide. The Tiger Sheng has distinct ethnic and local characteristics, and most of them are self-taught and passed down by villagers. After years of processing and sorting, on the basis of maintaining the original characteristics, it has become one of the brands of Yi culture, and has a great influence at home and abroad. The villagers of Xiaomaidi Chong have been invited to visit Japan and France, and have also performed in Shanghai, Jiangxi, Shandong, Henan and other places in China.
