The Gourd Sheng Dance of the Yi Nationality in Xichou is popular in Jijie Man Village, Xichou County, Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Man Village is a village inhabited by the Hualang people of the Yi nationality. The Gourd Sheng Dance of the Hualang people is an ancient Yi folk dance, which is unique for its typical dance posture of the body bending back and forth in an "S" shape, showing the lingering charm of the Gourd Sheng Dance of the ancient Dian people. On the Kaihua ancient bronze drum decoration, there are four dancers wearing feather crowns, feather clothes, and dancing with Gourd Shengs. The dance posture is a typical "S"-shaped forward and backward bending shape. This can prove that in the long history, when the ancient Dian ancestors danced the Gourd Sheng Dance, they wore feather crowns, held feathers in their hands, wore feather clothes, bent their limbs and stamped their feet, and danced around. Today, the headdresses and costumes of Hualang women in Mancun still retain some traces of "feather crowns" and "feather clothes", indicating that the Hulusheng dance of Hualang people in Mancun is inherited from the dance of ancient Dian ancestors and has its own specific historical and cultural connotations. During important festivals of Hualang people, men, women, old and young in the village gather in the courtyard. Women wear festive costumes and dance in circles to the accompaniment of Hulusheng. Hulusheng dance has seven different dance routines, including Yaju (standing dance), Yaqing (starting dance), Yala (moving and turning over), Yajiang (walking in a circle), Yawen (wearing flowers), Yagao (nodding) and Yagan (jumping forward and backward). Each routine has a different Hulusheng tune played, and the music is relatively rich. The Hulusheng of the Hualang people has a special production process. Five bamboo tubes of different lengths are embedded with bamboo or copper reeds at the root and inserted into the sound box made of gourd. Three of the sheng tubes have sound holes on the side, and the shortest one also has a sound hole behind the sound box. The top of the longest one is also covered with a small gourd to increase resonance. Due to changes in production and life and the impact of foreign culture, the artistic characteristics and cultural connotations of the Yi Hulusheng dance are gradually weakening, the form of expression is becoming more and more single, and there is also a pessimistic phenomenon in inheritance. It should be protected and rescued as soon as possible.
