Longhushan Zhengyi Taoist Fasting and Offering Rituals
The ritual of the Zhengyi Taoist Master of Longhu Mountain (the third batch of provincial level) The ritual of the Zhengyi Taoist Master of Longhu Mountain is a unique religious ceremony of Taoism. It is a religious activity in Taoism to communicate between people and gods, pray for the protection of gods, bless and eliminate disasters, or recommend and transcend the dead. Because the ritual of the fasting and offering (commonly known as "doing a Taoist ceremony") has a complete set of ritual procedures, such as music, candles, images, Yu steps, hand gestures, etc., it can also be called a kind of "dance". However, people give this kind of "dance" more religious content and mysterious mysteries. In the first year of Han'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Zhang Daoling founded the "Zhengyi Mengwei Dao" ("Wudoumi Dao") in Bashu and created the "Tianguan Handwritten" and other rituals. At the same time, Zhang Jiao founded the Taiping Dao in the north and also built ancestral temples, thatched houses, squares, and altars to hold fasting and sacrifices. The early rituals of the Tianshi Dao were mainly in the form of "direct recitation", which was accompanied by drumming, banging basins, "chanting spells", "drinking talisman water", etc. Kou Qianzhi of the Northern Wei Dynasty wrote "The City of New Laws in the Clouds", which changed "direct recitation" to "music recitation", which is regarded as the beginning of the combination of fasting and offering rituals with folk music and dance. Lu Xiujing of the Southern Dynasty also reformed the Tianshi Dao and formulated a complete set of fasting and offering rituals, such as "Golden Fasting Ritual", "Jade Fasting Ritual", "Nine Nether Fasting Ritual", "Examination Fasting Ritual", "Three Yuan Fasting Ritual", etc. In the Tang Dynasty, Taoism became the state religion, and fasting and offering activities were very popular, and gradually matured and took shape. After the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, some rituals have been lost, and some have been transformed and improved. The current Taoist Zhengyi Sect's fasting and offering rituals are basically divided into two categories: Qingjiao (also known as Yangjiao), which is mainly for praying for blessings, eliminating disasters, and opening the eyes and dividing spirits, and Youjiao (also known as Yinjiao), which is mainly for saving the dead, breaking the prison, praising the ghosts, and offering food. There are many different items in the two categories, such as asking for water, setting up the altar, welcoming the emperor, setting the dragon and laying the soil, raising the banner and hanging the list, presenting the memorial, thanking the saints, and the Yinjiao, Lingbao Jilian, worshiping the nine ghosts, etc.
